KYC Summer Scheme kicks off on Monday 2nd July

* The much anticipated KYC Summer Scheme kicks off on Monday 2nd July for nine weeks with all the usual popular attractions included and a few new ones also.

 

There are trips to W5, , the Butterfly House, Lagan Valley Waterplex, the Cinema, Cocos, the Magical Maize Maze, Exploris the NI Aquarian, Kadet Karting, Indiana Land and the Ice Bowl.

 

Zumba, Lazer Quest, Jungle World, the Magician, SELB Inclusion Puppet Show and Global Rhythms are listed among the activities taking place at Dunavil as well as weekly kids cookery and arts & crafts.

 

And there are new activities like Jumping Clay, Brilliant Bears, mini Olympics and Water Zorbing.

 

For the older teenagers there is a Walking Club, BBQ, Sleepovers, trips to the Jungle, Todds Leap, Formula Karting and Carlingford Adventure Centre and workshops on Graffiti Art, DJing, Unite Against Hate and more.

 

Summer Scheme leaflets are available from the club as are consent forms which must be completed and returned before taking part in any activity; registration from 11am on Monday 2nd July. Also there are one off events for the whole family; on Wednesday 25th July there is a Treasure Hunt and on Wednesday 22 August a Family Trek and Barbecue.

 

Also each Thursday in July and August starting 5th July there is a Car Boot Sale at Dunavil from 10am to 1pm, indoor if raining, with fresh fruit and veg and flower stall each week.

 

ACCESS NI - Summer Scheme

To enable ACCESS NI checks be carried out, anyone willing to volunteer at the Summer Scheme in July or August must complete a form asap; contact the club if interested. There is a meeting at the Club on Monday 11th June for anyone willing to help or with any ideas for Summer Scheme activities.

There was a good turn-out for the Defibrillator course last Wednesday.

Congratulations to those local volunteers nominated for awards at the annual Volunteer Now night this week – Edmond, Gavin, Houston, Noeleen and Patricia.

Open University

* On Saturday past the Youth Justice Agency funded ‘No Need for Speed’ project continued at KYC with the Formula Karting trip.

* Also on Saturday fifteen young people from KYC attended an overnight lock-in at JIMS YC.

* The KYC POINTER group met on Saturday and everyone should have their volunteer rota by now. The group is looking for four community projects to complete on Saturdays in the new year and anyone with suggestions should call into Dunavil and speak to a Leader. The next POINTER meeting is at 12pm on Wednesday 28th December.

* Christmas Activities at KYC include Family Table Quiz on Friday 16th December; Fancy Dress Indoor Tennis on Saturday 17th December; Santa Sunday on Sunday 18th December; Pool & Darts on Tuesday 20th December; Badminton on Wednesday 21st December; Kids Disco on Thursday 22nd December; Bowling / Cinema Trip on Friday 23rd December.

* Millennium Volunteers in conjunction with Volunteer Now will visit Dunavil on 11th January to sign up young people so that volunteering through KYC can help with education and job applications.

* Top Club, the South Down Association of Youth Clubs talent contest, will soon be upon us. There is a Table Quiz for aged 10 to 13; a Team Challenge for aged 14 to 18; the Y Factor for three age groups U11, 11 to 15 and aged 16+ for comedians, singers, dancers etc. If this sounds like something you are interested in then ask a leader for details.
